"I like you." | Fun Practice IdeasALPHABET HUNT
Take turns finding objects that begin with each letter sound. You can play this at home, in the car or even in a restaurant. I wonder if you'll find something for "q" or "x", or "z". NONSENSE WORD GAME Make up silly words with a consonant, vowel and consonant. Then try to read each word. "wan, pef, mon," etc. Use the "short" vowel sounds for the words. A-Z READING BOOKS Have your child read you a book. Enjoy the book together. You could also take turns reading the pages. Read the books using a funny voice. If your child comes to a word they don't know, help them sound it out. If they are frustrated, just tell them the word so they can keep reading. TALK, TALK, TALK Set aside some time to just talk with your child. Maybe at meal time or bed time. You can talk about the day or what they like to do in the snow. What's their favorite meal? Talk about some fun activity you did. It is so important to have a conversation with your child. Doing so helps their language, both reading and writing. WRITING Have your child write out a grocery list. What would they like to eat? Or work on the list together, helping them spell the words. FUN WEBSITE Here is a fun website for your child to practice letters and sounds and reading. Your child has already been on this site in the computer lab at school. RHYMING WORDS It is such fun to practice rhyming words. This game helps your child focus on sounds. What's a word that rhymes with coat? "Boat, loat" It's fun to make up pretend words that rhyme too. |
